project a trajectory into the future
The BHT project was officially launched on June 1st, 2023 with two main objectives:
-
Objective 1:
Develop, validate and optimize a battery of metrics quantifying individual Brain Health Status -
Objective 2:
Demonstrate that BHS quantification outperforms individual markers and consequently may achieve diagnostic acceleration and early stratification of subjects at risk
Our vision is to develop toolbox contributions that characterize brain health of individuals and, in perspective, will lay the ground for a platform to be used for population screening and decision-making. The organization is illustrated in the figure below:
The project is grouped into three phases:
- Phase 1: Analysis of existing brain health data with augmented BHS markers
- Phase 2: Development of novel AI technologies and markers for BHS monitoring
- Phase 3: Open calls for strengthening and applying novel markers
These phases translate into tasks organized into 3 Work Packages (WP):
- WP1: Structural (lesional) markers
- WP2: Dynamical (non-lesional) markers
- WP3: Novel approaches: model-driven markers
Through these activities, BHT aims to achieve the following outcomes:
- Improved ability to monitor and anticipate the progression of a disease
- Simple, compact "augmented indicators", which in an integrated and synergistic way, describe at a personalized level the risks of progression and the chances of cognitive resilience in the face of disease.
- Improved quality of life for patients by reducing the emergence and anticipation of serious cognitive disorders
- Reduced costs associated with medical and social monitoring and assistance for dementia patients
- Future partnerships through dissemination of the project's results, in particular the free sharing of codes and data, and open calls.
